Art Train

The unique exhibition train, featuring dedicated gallery spaces, was created by Ukrainian Railways using its own facilities with the support of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation in 2025. Through photography, enhanced by specially selected lighting and music, it tells the truth about the war in Ukraine.

The project’s goal was to bring art closer to every Ukrainian and make it truly accessible.

The geography of this traveling art project has now expanded. From now on, visitors outside Ukraine can also experience the “Courage of a Nation” exhibition and this unique cultural railway space on wheels, immersing themselves in the spirit of courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people in their struggle against the enemy.

Courage of a Nation Exhibition
This extraordinary photo exhibition shows the courage, resiliency, and commitment of the Ukrainian people as they stand strong for democracy and freedom, through the lens of Howard G. Buffett, chairman and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a photographer and a true friend of Ukraine.

The creative inspiration behind the project’s concept belongs to its curator, Muhammed Muheisen — a world-renowned photographer, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, a National Geographic photojournalist and explorer.

Exhibition Train Route

A unique Art Train featuring gallery carriages has travelled across Ukraine — from East to West, from the frontline to the Carpathian Mountains. In the 43 cities where it stopped, more than 48,000 visitors have already experienced unique art created during the wartime era.

Now, Ukrzaliznytsia’s Art Train is embarking on an international tour. Its first stop outside Ukraine will be Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. In Moldova, the gallery train will also stop at the railway stations in Ungheni and Bălți.

The Art Train brings together different countries, people, contemporary art and the spirit of travel, memory, and an unbreakable will to live.

About Howard G. Buffett and the Foundation

Howard Buffett is the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a private grant-making organization established in 1999 to improve global food security, mitigate global conflicts, and combat human trafficking. A farmer, businessman, former elected official, former sheriff, photographer, and philanthropist, Howard has traveled with his camera to more than 150 countries across six continents, documenting active conflicts and disappearing wildlife habitats, meeting with and learning from farmers, militia members, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
Since the start of the full-scale war, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation has provided Ukraine with more than $1.3 billion in assistance. In terms of both the scale and breadth of its support, the Foundation has become Ukraine’s largest private donor. Its resources are directed toward recovery efforts, including demining, humanitarian aid, prosthetics, children’s programs, war crimes investigations, agriculture, public safety, critical infrastructure, as well as projects that tell the truth about the war and strengthen Ukrainian communities.
In partnership with JSC Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), the Foundation has implemented several projects, including the creation of special “Fortresses of Resilience” spaces at railway stations and the installation of modern water purification systems to provide passengers with high-quality drinking water. The partnership has also supported social and educational projects for children and young people, including the Christmas Express, the Traveler’s Passport, the decoration of new-generation children’s railway carriages, the restoration of the children’s railway, support for children during forced evacuation journeys, and the development of talented young people through the Iron Family initiative. In 2025, the total value of assistance reached nearly UAH 9 million. In 2026, it has already exceeded UAH 8 million.
